I was intrigued when Alison Stevens became one of the first followers to my blog, so read with interest what she is all about and I endorse her work with P.A.I.N. fully and after 25 years lets hope 2010 is the year for reform and matters improve for those involved not least the children so often damaged by forced irreversible care! I also support the campaign by Jimmy Deuchars and Gloria Hunniford who seek to make Grandparents and extended family the first port of call rather then care, offering children stability and continuity whilst it is the parents that go for 'care' and learn some basic parental responsibilities, as well as Grandparents having regular access to their children's children!
Social Services in the UK are a failure with no council being free of some incompetence or over bureaucratised folly that means the ones who need the help most seldom get heard and for expediency end up as a case study filed on some dusty shelf on a council office and should a problem develop the old mantra is wheeled out;
"Oh we are so sorry but we will learn from this and move on!" They move on but seldom learn!
Birmingham is said to be the worst council in the UK, but I can also sight Cornwall, East Sussex, Suffolk and Doncaster with Haringay found to be the worst borough in London, but there is no room for complacency elsewhere in the Capital! One glimmer of hope is in Birmingham you have ardent campaigner John Hemming M.P.(see link in side bar) and Lynne Featherstone has campaigned relentlessly in her constituency that includes Haringay and you can view her You Tubes in the sidebar link. I would like to see John Hemming and Lynne Featherstone take over from Mr.& Mrs. Ed Balls at CSF and DWP maybe then we would then see the long overdue reform promised after the Baby Peter case!!
(Baby Peter inspired my first blog)I have been accused (In the Sun-Talk forum) of having a vendetta on Sharon Shoesmith as I have advocated she should face trial for her negligence. I qualify my view by saying that as a former truck driver if I were to have taken my eye off the road for a moments lapse of concentration whilst at the wheel of a 40 ton truck travelling down the motorway, and as a consequence ploughed into a car killing the occupants the public would bay for my blood and I would face prosecution with at least a 6 months to 2 years prison. It would not have been my intention to cause death in my duty of work anymore then this director of Child welfare and of cause the blame lies firmly at the 3 'carers' that left Baby Peter nowhere to turn but yet another abuser he had no chance of calling for help from a neighbour or childline. Where Ms. Shoesmith did fail was to register the fact that here social workers had been called to the home on 50+ occasions which is extreme by any standard and failed in her responsibilities and duty of care to that child on her watch and on top of that sought to silence Nevres Kemel (click Baby Peter's photo in side bar) who tried to blow the whistle on this when, if she had acted on her concerns, this child may have been spared!
OFSTEAD gave haringay council a clean bill of health...the week Baby Peter died then had to scuttle back very quickly to brand them the worst Council in London!
It is one thing to lambaste a failing school so it ends up under funded and a dumping ground for other schools excluded pupils but quite another to miss obvious flaws at a child welfare department of it's own Governments CSF directorate, or is it? Are we not just failing our young at every level and what ever is the point of OFSTEAD?
CAFCASS and the CSA or that other wolf in sheep's clothing CMEC should be disbanded forthwith as they too fail to serve those they should...the children!

Family Law Court Judges rely too heavily on erroneous testimony from a CAFCASS court reporter or CSF social worker and I wonder what point is there having a judge at all? It is so rare to get the right judgement and all the other times a judge can sight a social workers snap shot report as his/her evidence but really it just covers there backs and as with all so called professionals involved in these cases renders them unaccountable and not case of redress (You try going to court of appeal!!)
What makes me cough further is when you read Lord Justice Ward's comments in the Times 1st May 2008 ( Click on failing judge in sidebar) then read his duplication in the Bristol Evening Post of December 2009 (also in side bar) and wonder why, if he knows the failure why he and his fellow Law Lords are not working actively to reform this erroneous law as it would not take much simply even up the parental responsibly law to include Fathers and stop excluding and indeed banishing good dads from the family unit even after separation from the mother! Dads can offer so much more then just cash and could stop the erosion of our societies and bring discipline and respect so sadly missing in today's broken societies!
In summery I believe above all previous blogs this is the one that epitomises what my campaign and Alison's P.A.I.N campaign of 25 years stands for and 2010 has to be the year when this injustice has to end and a full top to bottom reform of social services throughout the UK is carried out ! It is no good just throwing £850,000 at each council Mr. Balls to simply recruit more social workers into a failing system to which we have had first hand experience, when it is the system they are expected to work in that need a most urgent national review!

Leicestershire Social Services are asking for volunteers to come forward to befriend children in care, so i thought about at least getting some information about the subject.
ReplyDeleteI rang ,and a lady answered the telephone,and said she would send me an information pack, she also stated that a lot of people had come forward.
The forms arrived, so i started to read the documents in anticipation.
References would be required from your employer,also as we know they would have to obtain an enhanced CRB disclosure.
There would be an open evening where all interested individuals would get together.
There would be three interviews,and a health declaration form to be filled in by the applicants GP.
After an intensive training course and selection period, you would meet a child that you would befriend.supervised by Social Workers, with regular monthly meetings.and yearly appraisels.
You would get paid travel expenses,and other money which would pay for an afternoon at the pictures, or such.
The information leaflet states that a volunteer could be accused of child abuse,and that the Police would be involved,and in such circumstances, the Local Authority,and Social Services would not support the individual with regards to the allegation.
Applicants are not made aware in the documents, about what could happen with regards too their own family and children, if an allegation was made, as you all know it could result in the removal of a volunteers own children.
You give your heart and soul as a volunteer,and the LA do not make you aware of what could happen, i will be writing a letter with regards to this.
